->A SD card of size more than 4 GB
Tools Required (Windows):
SD Formatter 4.0:
Download and install SD Formatter 4.0 from the following link.
Download and extract Win32DiskImager from the link.
Raspberry Pi Images:
Download any one of the Raspberry Pi images such as Raspbian or Debian etc from the link.
Extract the downloaded file and you will get a img file.
Tools Required (Linux):
Download and install gparted using the command in Ubuntu.
sudo apt-get install gparted
Image Writer (GUI):
If you want to use GUI download and install ImageWriter from Ubuntu Software Center
Setup Instructions (Windows):
1.Insert SD in SD card slot or use SD card reader.
2.Open SD Formatter and set “FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT ON” and then format the SD card.
3.Open Win32DiskImager and select the extracted image file.
4.Now select Write.
5.The image will be written to the SD card and you have successfully setup your SD card.
Setup Instructions (Linux):
1.Open gparted and delete the existing partitions.
2.Right click on the Unallocated partition and select new. Create a FAT 16 file system partition and select Add.
3.Finally Apply and your SD card will be formatted.
4.The to write the image to SD card use ImageWriter GUI in Ubuntu or use dd (command line image writer)
5.If you are using dd using the following command to write image to SD card.
dd bs=4M if=~/2012-12-16-wheezy-raspbian.img of=/dev/sdb
6.The image will be written to the SD card and you have successfully setup your SD card.
/dev/sdb is the the location of SD card in linux.
